Northern Lights Looking for Back to Back Titles

Edmonton, AB - The Alberta Northern Lights travel to Lexington, Kentucky this weekend to compete as the defending Division II champions of the N.W.B.A. (National Wheelchair Basketball Association). In April 2005, their name was recorded in the history books as the first Canadian team ever to win an N.W.B.A. title. They hope to follow up this year by making history as the first Division Two team to win back to back Final Four victories.

In spite of their commanding win at the West Regionals here in Edmonton, Coach Darrell Nordell noticed a few aspects of their game that needed some work, namely match up defence and five on four situations. They have spent the past couple of weeks working on turning these types of opportunities into completed executions, and feel ready to be tested in competition. This week the #1 seed is going through their systems to make sure everyone is comfortable with their roles and planning strategies based on research Coach Nordell has gathered about their opponents.

The Lights’ semi-final matchup is this Friday, April 7 at 5:00pm (EDT; 3:00pm local time) against #4 seeded Rockford Chariots at the Memorial Coliseum. The other semi-final pits the Dallas Mavericks (#3 seed) against the Arkansas Rollin’ Razorbacks (#2 seed). Winners play off for the prestigious Final Four championship title Saturday at 2:30pm (EDT).
